SUMMARY:Day at the Capitol - Lunch and Learn
DESCRIPTION:Join us in Sacramento as we roam the legislative hallways to meet with elected officials and staff of the Assembly and Senate Business & Professions and Economic Development committees to share our concerns about topics affecting the sign industry.\n\nFollowing the 5/21/25 Lunch & Learn\, directors will be visiting senators and/or assembly members\, acquainting our state legislators\, on who and what the California Sign Association is.  The Legislature began life in 1849 with only 16 Senators and 36 Assembly Members.  Half of each house came from the mining districts of Sacramento and San Joaquin!  Today\, however\, most representatives come from the San Francisco Bay Area\, Los Angeles\, and San Diego\, where our population is concentrated. \nThis is an opportunity for you to make a difference and be a part of your industry’s future\, becoming more informed citizens with an appreciation for the democratic process and the life cycle of a bill\, from being an idea to becoming a law\, and being chaptered by the Secretary of State.  \nJoin Us at the Old Spaghetti Factory! \nPreceding the Capitol visits\, the CSA Lunch & Learn will include topic review of the discussion points we would like to bring to the table. \nJeff Aran\, CSA Legal Counsel\, is prepared to bring those in attendance up-to-speed on recent legislation\, regulations\, and challenges affecting the sign industry and California business owners\, in preparation for approaching Capitol Representatives with a unified voice. \nNetworking/Lunch/Preparation – Wednesday\, May 21st \nNetworking & Lunch 11:00am- 12:30pm\nthe Old Spaghetti Factory\n1910 J Street\nSacramento\, CA 95811 \nState Capitol Meetings (Sacramento): 1:00pm – 4:00pm \nThink Then Drink – Happy Hour: To Follow

SUMMARY:2024 CSA BOD Meeting + Dinner + Grapevine Jan. 11th
DESCRIPTION:The California Sign Association is excited to announce the January 2024 meeting and The Grapevine in Southern California at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Rancho Cucamonga!\nTHURSDAY – Jan. 11\, 2024 \n \nThe Old Spaghetti Factory\n11896 Foothill Blvd\nRancho Cucamonga\, CA 91730 \nThe January Board Meeting will take place at the the Old Spaghetti Factory – 11896 Foothill Blvd\, Rancho Cucamonga\, CA 91730.  Following the Board Meeting\, join us for MORE!\n \nFollowing the Board of Directors meeting plan on joining industry movers and shakers for the CSA Meeting and current news “through The Grapevine.” A great opportunity for networking\, industry updates and terrific food & beverages. We look forward to seeing you there!\nCocktails & Network:             5:15pm – 6:15pm\nDinner & The Grapevine          6:15pm – 8:30pm \nWhat is The Grapevine? It’s an informal talk session which brings to light new information about California communities\, the job market\, and tips and insights from attendees. Feel free to ask questions\, share answers or just soak up the information. The Grapevine is all things sign industry in California!\nMacquarie’s colloquial meaning is the one you’re after: “the network of personal and other contacts through which information ranging from gossip to substantive information is passed informally.” Typically you would hear something either ON the grapevine\, or in Mr Gaye’s case\, THROUGH the grapevine. Both are correct. \nQ: So when did this meaning come about?\nA: Etymology Online describes the use of the “grapevine telegraph” as “a secret source of information and rumor in the American Civil War”.\nQ: But why a grapevine?\nA: It is related to Samuel Morse’s invention of the telegraph in the 1830s. As the system grew\, it meant thousands of miles of telegraph wire suddenly appeared – hanging a few yards up in the air\, suspended between poles placed at regular intervals. As a result\, many people likened the sight to how vines were trained to grow along strings between two poles.\nQ: Vines such as grapevines!\nA: Exactly.
