In this fun, enlightening, and sometimes shocking presentation, Mike Sullaway, PE, will show us The Role of Failure in Successful Design, a presentation based on the book by Henry Petroski. The infamous failures that do occur are ultimately failures of design, and of course can be quite heartbreaking. But the lessons learned from these failures sometimes can do more to advance the knowledge of engineering than any education can provide. These failures inevitably lead to greater design successes. This presentation will cover a few of those catastrophes and some of the hard lessons that have been derived!
