She Did It! Our Newest Certified Crane Operator

Early this month, NOV 2-3-4, Emily Miller with Sign Designs in Modesto, CA became the first female to participate in the CSA Crane Operator Certification program! Better yet, after two weeks of anxiously awaiting the results from her practical and written tests, she learned that she passed and would soon be receiving her Crane Operator Certification card from NCCCO.

Emily shared that engineering and creating by putting things together “has been a part of her” since childhood. Learning new things and new experiences is a driving force in her life. She considers herself “lucky” to work in her current position at Sign Designs and the support of those around her makes taking on challenges possible. Continue Reading

Our Newest Director Emeritus Receives Honor!

The list of the CSA Presidential responsibilities is a long and sometimes daunting list. However, there are also some privileges that come with the office. This year at the 2023 Annual Convention & Educational Conference, as the 65th President of the California Sign Association, I had the honor and privilege to be only the 9th President to present the award of “Director at Large Emeritus” to Mr. Bob Shimmin of Montroy Supply Company.

To become a “Director-at-Large Emeritus,” a director must have served on the CSA board for at least 20 years and be elected by the Board of Directors for this life-long appointment.

Bob Shimmin joins 17 previous Directors Emeriti to become only the 18th Board Member in CSA history to receive this honor, the first of whom was Mr. Frank Montroy of Montroy Supply Company in 1993 just after the Director Emeritus role was created.

Bob has served many terms on the Executive Committee as Secretary/Treasurer. His dedication to the California Sign Association and his high moral and ethical values set an example to all board members.

Bob is now part of the elite group of surviving Directors Emeriti alongside Kozell Boren (1997), Pat McGehee (1998), Roy Flahive (2007), Terry Long (2009), Skip Moore (2014) and Gary Quiel (2014). A full list of Directors Emeriti can be found in the California Sign Association Membership Directory and on the CSA website.

Congratulations Bob and Thank You for your continued service to the California Sign Association!
