  • California Secure Choice Retirement Savings Program

    SB 1234 Deadlines for Employers

California now requires opt-out private retirement accounts

SB 1234 established the California Secure Choice Retirement Savings Program. Any employer with at least five employees that doesn’t already offer a workplace retirement savings vehicle will be required to either begin offering one via the private market or provide their employees access to CalSavers. The program allows employees to voluntarily contribute to their own private retirement account, administered by the state. The program is now called CalSavers. Employers will be required to offer the program to employees, and be the conduit for payments to be deducted from payroll. While employers have no fiduciary liability, nor are responsible for the employee’s decision to participate in, or opt out of the program, it may be impose a significant burden for employers.

  • OSHA 300A Summary Logs

Fed/OSHA required all employers to file a copy of their 300A summary logs by July 1, 2018 (for 2017 reporting). Cal/OSHA recently passed emergency rulemaking to ensure the state was complying with the Federal requirement.

Click HERE for the Federal website to send, or see if you are required to submit. Certain establishments below 20 employees or in non construction occupations may not be required to submit. Per OSHA:

Only a small fraction of establishments are required to electronically submit their Form 300A data to OSHA. Establishments that meet any of the following criteria DO NOT have to send their information to us. Remember, these criteria apply at the establishment level, not to the firm as a whole.

    • The establishment’s peak employment during the previous calendar year was 19 or fewer, regardless of the establishment’s industry.
    • The establishment’s industry is on this list, regardless of the size of the establishment.
    • The establishment had a peak employment between 20 and 249 employees during the previous calendar year AND the establishment’s industry is not on this list.
  • Jan 24- Capitol Tour!

JAN 24: Capitol Tour, Meet Your Representative, Network & Dinner Meeting to Follow

    The Capitol: 4:00 – 5:00 PM:

Here is your chance to see Behind the Scenes at the State Capitol! Enjoy a Guided VIP tour of the Capitol, along with an opportunity to talk shop with your state representatives.

Standing tall against Sacramento’s city skyline, the impressive white granite dome of the California State Capitol is beautiful from the outside – but even more interesting once you take a peek inside!

Following the 1/24/19 CSA Board Meeting, directors will be visiting senators and/or assembly members, acquainting our state legislators with who and what the California Sign Association represents. CSA Tour Participants will join board members (meeting in the Rotunda, sharply by 4pm), as we explore the Capitol, becoming more informed citizens with an appreciation for the democratic process and the life cycle of a bill, from being an idea to becoming a law, and being guided by the Secretary of State.

The Legislature began life in 1849 with only 16 Senators and 36 Assembly Members. Half of each house came from the mining districts of Sacramento and San Joaquin! Today, however, most representatives come from the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, and San Diego, where our state’s population is concentrated.

We are looking forward to Louis sharing some of his vast experience with us. Sip on some-thing cold to drink, with an opportunity to network with fellow CSA Members.  Then it’s time to experience some fabulous food and camaraderie with those who make up the heart of the Association!
