CSA Fishing Trip 2024 – A Big Haul!
On August 3rd, 35 of the 39 who registered for the CSA 2024 Fishing Trip were aboard the “Clemente” by 5 a.m. and didn’t return until around 6:30 p.m. Event participation for 2024 was good and fun had by all – This year (120) Fish were caught and the $175 jackpot catch was won by Samantha Swift, Ad Art – Congratulations Samantha!

Dear CSA,
On May 8, 2024, I had the privilege of spending the day at our state capital, engaging with our CSA members, legislators and policymakers. My group consisted of Michael Schmidt, CSA Vice President and Jeff Aran, CSA Legal Counsel. We had the opportunity to meet with several ASM staff to discuss our positions on AB-2622, SB-1116 and Skilled and Trained Workforce.

Governor Signs PAGA Reform Bill
WIN FOR SMALL BUSINESS
PAGA (Private Attorney General Act) has long been a thorn in the side of California employer. It essentially allows private attorneys to step into the shoes of government lawyers to prosecute employment cases. This bill seeks to rein in PAGA claims. Here is the Governor’s message. The legislation was signed into law today by the Governor after proponents of a PAGA ballot initiative withdrew their measure last week. Here’s a link to the legislation, AB 2288.

CSA Saves Signs in Humboldt County
Existing On-Premise Signs Gain Protection
The good news is that CSA effectively protected existing on-premise signs from having to be brought into conformance using a law, B&P Code sec 5491.1, spearheaded by CSA in 1983. Originally, in April, notwithstanding CSA objections, the Humboldt Board of Supervisors approved a new restrictive ordinance, which among other things, prohibited digital signage and bans billboards (in the unincorporated area). The California Sign Association led a group of its members, business, and community leaders, to Sacramento on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, for a Day at the Capitol. Following the CSA Board of Directors Meeting that morning at the Old Spaghetti Factory, the delegation gathered to prepare their unified voice of topics and items relevant to the on-premise sign industry and doing business in California.
